Do you compete in competition?
We occasionally are invited to participate in many competitions across the mainland. It is up to the discretion of the Kumu to decide whether or not we are ready to compete. However, we are fainacially mindful and plan in advance if we decide to compete. We generally do every few years.
Do we fundraise for occasions?
As a member of our halau, it is the halau members responsibility to contribute financially to the halaus goals in order to cover the costs of rehearsals, your costumes, and performance fees. While the group will provide support and guidance in fundraising efforts, it is ultimately the dancers responsibility to secure the funds necessary for their participation.
Are we required to perform in shows?
As a member of Kaulana Ka Hale Kula ‘O Na Pua ‘O Ka Aina, you are expected to participate in all shows and performances unless otherwise approved by the Kumu.
Is there a Uniform that we need to wear?
Yes, we provide you with a t-shirt for $40. You can purchase this in our online store tab. Your halau skirt can either be made by a fellow halau member or you may take the material to a seamstress of your choice. However, the skirt material cost is $45.00 and the halau member fee is an additional $40.00.
When are practices for my age group?

What do I need to do before getting started?
First, you will be required to read and review a halau member agreement form. Second, a form of tuition payment is required when submitting the agreement with a signature. More information will follow upon signature.
What if I am a beginner and dont know anything about hula?
Our halau is designed to leave nobody behind. We have designed an online members area only section for you to watch online basic and hula videos at your own pace. This is to help you understand the fundamentals of hula and our particular style of hula.
Am I allowed to dance for another group as well?
It is the policy of Kaulana Ka Hale Kula ‘O Na Pua ‘O Ka Aina that dancers may not be part of more than one halau, studio, parks and recreation or groups at a time. This policy applies to all dancers.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that dancers are fully committed to their craft at Kaulana Ka Hale Kula ‘O Na Pua ‘O Ka Aina and are able to give their best effort to the halau. Dancing for multiple studios or groups at the same time can create conflicts of interest and may compromise the integrity and reputation of Kaulana Ka Hale Kula ‘O Na Pua ‘O Ka Aina.
When is tuition due?
Monthly tuition payments are due on the 1st of each month. Late payments will incur a $25 late fee after 5 days. If payment is not received within two weeks of the due date, you may be removed from class and all online features.
How often does the Halau do shows?
We often perform when our Kumu feels that we are ready to perform. We hold annual recitals and concerts every year or every other year.
Can we watch a class before joining?
We do welcome new students to watch a class if we have space and time for you to visit. However, please check out the video below regarding our style and class structure.
